Weighing in at just under 12 ounces, it’s lightweight and packable, yet also has all of the technical features I need, like the reliable waterproofing of Gore-Tex, an adjustable hood, two-way side zippers to release heat, and zippered pockets.
For adventures in a hotter climate where you still need a windbreaker or rainjacket, but something as light as possible, Chris and I both love our seven-ounce, highly packable Outdoor Research Helium rain jackets ($180, his and hers - and yes, we’ve been married a long time and we occasionally wear matching outfits!).

Binoculars are a worthwhile travel companion for any trip that involves wildlife or birds, whether it’s a Galapagos cruise, a tiger safari in India, or a nature-based escape to Costa Rica.
