Rwanda
Standing only feet away from two baby mountain gorillas wrestling each other is one of our most cherished wildlife encounters. Being on foot and face-to-face with an enormous male silverback gorilla and his family, the planet’s most critically endangered primate, is something that is so special it will leave an indelible mark on any visitor.
In Rwanda, these magnificent creatures are only found by trekking up the forested slopes of Volcanoes National Park. Primate enthusiasts have the chance to encounter black and white colobus, red-tailed and golden monkeys as well as baboons, and might consider extending their adventure to Nyungwe Forest to search for chimpanzees.
Accommodations near Volcanoes NP are of the highest standard with some of the most luxurious, award-winning lodges in Africa.
In eastern Rwanda, guests can explore Akagera National Park, home to lions, rhinos, hippos and Maasai giraffes.
Rwanda’s upscale and cosmopolitan capital, Kigali, is well connected by short flights from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania making it an easy extension option for guests on safari in any of these countries.
