Fundacion Cerro Guido is based at Estancia Cerro Guido, a 100,000 hectare property bordering Torres del Paine National Park. At the beginning of 2019, Fundacion Cerro Guido set itself an ambitious goal: to find a way to make livestock farming compatible with pumas in one of the most inhospitable regions on the planet.
The Estancia is mainly dedicated to sheep and cattle farming, and through camera traps they have identified at least 32 individual pumas in the area. To protect livestock they have worked with the Panthera Foundation to implement livestock protection dogs and deterrent lights. They have also created a new Conservation Safari where guests can contribute to puma research as they spend time in the field with professional trackers. Projects have expanded to include paleontology and architectural and cultural preservation.
