Greystoke Mahale
Set on a remote beach along the shores of Lake Tanganyika, beneath the forested slopes of the Mahale Mountains, Greystoke Mahale is one of Africa’s most extraordinary and adventurous camps. Accessible only by boat, this barefoot-luxury lodge offers seven open-fronted bandas crafted from reclaimed dhow wood, each with sweeping lake views and an upstairs chill-out deck. Days begin with the thrill of tracking wild chimpanzees on foot through dense forest and end with sundowners on the beach as waves lap the shore. When not chimp trekking, guests can kayak, swim, or explore the lake by dhow. Meals are fresh and creative, served in the thatched main lodge with sand beneath your feet and stars overhead.
